The North Medford High School Boys Bowling team is headed to the USBC High School National Championships in Dayton, Ohio, June 12-17. The team qualified for nationals after finishing second at the Oregon State Championships in February. The team is led by senior captain Jacob Smith, who finished third at states with a 653 series. Smith is joined by fellow seniors Ethan Young (613 series), Logan Smith (597 series), and Bryce Anderson (589 series). The team is also bolstered by junior Ethan Johnson (587 series) and sophomores Gavin Dillard (579 series) and Mason Hill (578 series). The team is coached by Mike Smith, who is in his 18th season as head coach. Smith is excited to see what his team can accomplish at nationals. "I'm really proud of the way the boys have worked hard all season," Smith said. "They've put in a lot of time and effort, and they're really excited to compete at nationals." The team will be competing against the top high school bowling teams from across the country. Smith is confident that his team can compete with the best of them. "I think we have a chance to do really well," Smith said. "We're a young team, but we're very talented. I think we can make some noise at nationals." The team will be leaving for Dayton on June 11. They will compete in the preliminary round on June 12, and the top 32 teams will advance to the single-elimination tournament on June 13-17. The team is hoping to bring home a national championship for North Medford. They will need to bowl their best if they want to achieve their goal. "We're just going to go out there and have fun," Smith said. "We're not going to put any pressure on ourselves. We're just going to go out there and bowl our best."
