Singaporean Bowler Wins First Title Since 2019
Cherie Tan of Singapore won the 2023 PWBA Stockton Open on Saturday, defeating Jordan Richard of Maumee, Ohio, 237-205, in the championship match. The win was Tan's fourth career PWBA Tour title and her first since 2019. Tan, who led qualifying by more than 200 pins, started the championship match strong, striking in the first three frames. Richard responded with strikes of her own in the fourth and fifth frames to tie the match at 30. Tan took the lead for good with a strike in the sixth frame. She added strikes in the seventh and eighth frames to build a 12-pin lead. Richard had a chance to close the gap in the ninth frame, but she left a split. Tan then closed out the match with a strike in the 10th frame. Tan's win was a special one, as it was the 100th tournament to award a title since the tour's relaunch in 2015. "I didn't know it was going to be the 100th title until I got here and heard people talking about it," Tan said. "It's pretty cool to have won it, so I just hope that we keep seeing more and more tournaments and get the opportunity to come back." Tan's win was a major victory for her and for Singapore. She is the first Singaporean bowler to win a PWBA Tour title. "It's a great feeling to win for my country," Tan said. "I hope that my win will inspire other bowlers in Singapore to follow their dreams." Tan's win is a sign that she is one of the top bowlers in the world. She is a consistent performer who can compete with the best bowlers in the world. "I'm just happy to be back on the tour and winning again," Tan said. "I'm looking forward to the rest of the season." Tan's win is a great start to the 2023 PWBA Tour season. The tour will now head to Lilac Lanes & Casino in Spokane, Washington, for the PWBA GoBowling! Spokane Open, which will take place May 11-13.
